Ethnobotanical Significance

Known as Jurema or Tepezcohuite, Mimosa Hostilis has a long-standing history among indigenous cultures of Mesoamerica. The name Tepezcohuite comes from the Aztec term “tepus-cuahuitl,” meaning “metal tree,” referring to the plant’s incredibly hard wood.

For centuries, the inner root bark of this sacred tree has been used by the Aztecs and other indigenous tribes to treat skin burns, wounds, and for ritualistic tea preparations. Additionally, the powdered bark serves as a natural dye, producing a deep, enchanting purple color often used for body paint and textile coloring.

Habitat & Origin

Mimosa Hostilis (Mimosa tenuiflora) is a resilient, bushy tree native to the tropical lowlands of Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, and parts of Mexico. It thrives in warm climates at altitudes up to 1,000 meters, growing up to 8 meters tall and producing elegant white flowers and green seed pods.

Scientific and Modern Uses

Although first documented over 150 years ago, Mimosa Hostilis wasn’t widely studied until the 1980s. It is now recognized for its antibacterial, antifungal, and skin-regenerative properties.

According to studies like that of Valencia-Gómez (2016), compounds found in the bark show potential in accelerating skin cell regeneration, making it a sought-after ingredient in skincare formulations, wound-healing treatments, and cosmetic creams. Ongoing research explores its use in bio-films for burn recovery and other dermatological applications.

I start my order on August 30. I received an inferior product. Complained to them, then they pretty much jerked me around for a month.
U finally received my Brazilian Mhrb powder, except it does not got the deep purple hue that normally is seen on Brazilian bark.

I am super disappointed. I wish to get a refund. I can get cheaper and better quality Mexican bark that looks better than what they had sent me.
